Emergency supplies: Lifepacks can help provide shelter and clothing | 10.13.2006 | 08:52:13 | Views: 6012 | ID: Supply chain issues will arise when a large natural disaster or terrorist strike inhibits the ability of emergency operations managers to move supplies into an area. More pointedly, when the general infrastructure is damaged, supply chain operations are seriously hindered. Already, there are churches and other religious organizations that have readily available supplies that can provide for a community. Lifepacks are kits that are mainly used for the homeless during the winter months. In each of the kits, there are thermal sheets, hand warmers, foot warmers, toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap. There is also a clean and dry change of underclothes, and food gift cards and bus tokens. During a crisis, the bus tokens and the food gift cards might not be relevant, however in an extended situation, the food gift cards might prove handy. Additionally, the dry change of underclothes would help victims of a disaster stave off cold-induced illnesses like pneumonia, and influenza. Many churches and religious organizations already have these packs for the homeless. During a disaster, lifepacks could be distributed by church members, religious organizations' volunteers and first responders.
