Town Hall meeting in LA works to unite businesses and community under preparedness | 01.11.2007 | 10:57:35 | Views: 4647 | ID: January 11: Business leaders and the public officials will participate in a meeting designed to unite the two groups under the umbrella of emergency preparedness "so companies and organizations can implement disaster response plans during 2007," a Town Hall Los Angeles press release reported. The Town Hall group's focus and mission, according to Town Hall President Jon Gordon, "is to promote civic participation and awareness by hosting events on issues critical to our region." The conference, called Prepare! A Leader's Guide to Security & Emergency Preparedness will be held January 18 with two sessions. Collaborators at the conference will discuss ways to improve the continuity of operations after a disaster. The Town Hall Los Angeles group has been working in the city's area for more than 70 years, company officials said. After the Department of Homeland Security released its findings recently about the current level of interoperable communications abilities among state and local governments and first responders, California officials began to find ways to improve their standing after scoring very low. Town Hall Los Angeles will work with Maryland-based Lockheed Martin. During the two-tiered conference, local government leaders will share post-disaster plans while the second part "consists of corporate leaders with on-the-ground disaster experience." Wal-Mart officials as well as members of the academic community representing the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for Transportation and Logistics will contribute to the knowledge base.
