Response exercise in Georgia simulates overwhelming scenario | 02.01.2007 | 16:02:38 | Views: 5230 | ID: February 1 '07: In Clayton County, Georgia, more than 300 responders, police and fire officials participated in a fake disaster exercise which simulated a terrorist strike, using bombs and biological weapons. The Henry Herald Daily reported. The event was organized by an independent contractor Emergency Response Training Systems. According to Alex Cohilas, the chief of the Clayton County Fire Department, the exercise was intended to create "a scenario so that it would overwhelm [the] respective agencies. ... We have to know how to all work together in a unified command structure." While pretend victims laid in the streets injured from the bomb blast, "SWAT teams entered the courthouse to rescue 'hostages' and stop 'terrorists' wearing orange reflective vests," the Herald Daily reported. From Atlanta, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sent inactive anthrax spores so that bio-sniffing dogs could locate the disease. Organizers and participants said the event went "well" and gave the response a "B+". There are more emergency response events scheduled in the area so that participants can have the experience, the Daily Herald reported.
