Texas response team simulates earthquake disaster | 03.02.2007 | 08:22:32 | Views: 6170 | ID: March 2 '07: About 80 search and rescue team members from the Texas Task Force are planning a simulated earthquake response exercise at the Disaster City facility in College Station a press release announced recently. During the training exercise, team members will practice removing victims from collapsed buildings, coordinating response capabilities and survey the area for dangerous and downed infrastructure such as power lines, gas mains and water pipes which could hinder the relief efforts. The exercise will be supervised and managed through the Texas Engineering Extension Service Emergency Operations Training Center, which is a part of the larger National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center. "Texas Task Force 1 is comprised of more than 300 emergency responders from more than 60 organizations and departments throughout Texas, with all members capable of deploying within a four-hour window. The team, which includes members ranging from firefighters to canines, is trained to respond to mass casualty incidents generated from both manmade and natural disasters," the press release read. The team has responded to many national emergencies and security events such as Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, the Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002, the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003 and the attacks on 9/11 in New York City.
