Texas local government coop launches information-sharing network | 03.13.2007 | 06:16:14 | Views: 5277 | ID: March 13 '07: A recent news release from the North Central Texas Council of Governments announced the creation of a new information-sharing network to help law state, regional and local law enforcement officials share resources to help fight crime. The Law Enforcement Analysis Portal, LEAP, was created "as a shared resource for the benefit of all officers in law enforcement agencies in Texas," the news release reported. The Internet-based portal includes recent events, arrests, a search database of offenders and details surrounding crimes and those subsequent arrests. Mike Eastland, the executive director of the NCTCOG, "LEAP complements other important information systems and advances our vision of creating economical shared resource information technology and services for the benefit of local governments in the state of Texas." LEAP will provide "cross-jurisdictional information and analytical tools to more rapidly recognize the crime patterns so corrective action may be taken," the news release concluded.
