In Case of Emergency | 04.24.2007 | 08:45:50 | Views: 5872 | ID: April 24 '07: In May 2005, an English first responder Bob Brotchie devised the In Case of Emergency program which would tag certain phone numbers on peoples' cell phones so that in an emergency, those on the scene could contact the victims' family or friends. The program later caught on globally and is now in the U.S.. The official ICE website is under construction, though there are plenty of resources for information about the program and ways to use the program in communities. At the heart of ICE is the idea that people would put the letters ICE next to their family members, friends or relatives who should be contacted in case of an emergency situation. If the person is not able to respond or answer EMS or firefighters those responders could look in the victims' phonebook contact list and see the ICE designations. ICE has been adopted by cell phone companies worldwide who urge all people carrying the mobile devices to use the ICE program.
