Cellphone startup helps to build private networks | 05.25.2007 | 08:18:53 | Views: 4967 | ID: May 25 '07: A new cellphone startup, Sonopia, is offering its customers the ability to create their own cellphone networks. The Associated Press reported that the company is targeting non-profits such as the National Wildlife Federation and the National Parks Conservation Association and offers each community the ability to share information, media and other content through their phones. Users of the new service have said they enjoy the ability to share information and even work on collaborative projects when members are in far away places. There are also potential services available for response organizations looking to inform their employees and agents in the event of an emergency. Currently, there are about 1,000 customized networks with range from sports teams to an aviation club. There are also a couple of networks dedicated to presidential candidates. The company's founder said he is only interested in tailoring the cell service "to people interested in technology," the AP reported.
