DHS asking first responders for feedback | 06.05.2007 | 08:43:13 | Views: 5437 | ID: June 5 '07: According to Washington Technology, the Department of Homeland Security's Science & Technology Directorate has released a notice and request for public comments on its TechSolutions program. The program "aims to provide technology information and training to fire, police, emergency medical and other response agencies" and DHS is asking first responders to "submit their ideas on 'capability gaps' in which there exists and urgent need for a technology that is not yet available," Washington Technology reported. The goal of the DHS-funded program is to "field technologies that meet 80 percent of the operational requirement" within a 12 - 15 month time frame. The S&T Directorate in DHS "is focusing on enabling its customers - the DHS components - and their customers, including Border Patrol agents, Coast Guardsmen, airport baggage screeners, Federal Air Marshals, and state, local, and Federal emergency responders, as well as the many other" agencies involved with the proper technological tools to be effective in overall preparedness, response and protection the website read.
