CSX Continuity of Operations plan | 06.29.2007 | 07:40:52 | Views: 6604 | ID: June 29 '07: According to the Jacksonville Financial News and Daily Record railroad company CSX has said it is working to make sure that its operational infrastructure and its employees are prepared for a disaster. John Hawkins, the director of Corporate Communications told the Jacksonville paper, the company "has detailed plans for disasters. ... We have to be able to find a way to satisfy our customers while protecting our assets." One of those ways of protecting assets and continuing to keep operations functioning during a disaster is through creating a planning guide - like the one published by the National Highway Research Program. In the COOP guide, the NCHRP said that its job was "to provide guidelines for state and local transportation agencies to develop, implement, maintain, train for, and exercise COOP capabilities. ... By being prepared to respond to terrorism, each transportation agency is simultaneously prepared to respond to natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and wildfires, as well as human-caused events such as hazardous materials spills and other incidents." Hawkins said, "We have contingency plans to be able to maintain our service. If there's a storm that we're sure is going to affect Florida or Georgia, or if Mayor (John) Peyton calls for an evacuation, we will move key staff members to other locations where they can continue to operate the system."(Click below to download file) transportation-security.pdf
