Red Cross partners with music festival to promote emergency preparedness | 07.03.2007 | 07:13:53 | Views: 5894 | ID: July 3 '07: The Red Cross will be on hand at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on July 5 - 8 to promote emergency preparedness and civic response and engagement campaign "Be Red Cross Ready" a press release announced. The festival is sponsored by Coca Cola. The festival also will include "a variety of free empowerment seminars and exhibits focusing on educational and personal development topics that are open to the public. Red Cross videos will also air during the concerts, including a public service announcement featuring musician, producer and Red Cross volunteer Wyclef Jean," the press release read. Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will be on hand at the festival to deliver keynote presentations. Red Cross officials said in the press release that they hope the festival will provide an outlet for educational awareness. The "Be Red Cross Ready" campaign's goal has been to enable families to equip themselves for a response to disasters "with three quick and simple steps: get a kit, make a plan, and be informed." The location of the festival being New Orleans gives a heightened sense of importance to disaster preparedness, officials said.
