Vermont assisted-living group helps with emergency preparedness | 07.16.2007 | 09:56:01 | Views: 5365 | ID: July 16 '07: The Rutland Herald in Vermont reported that to help senior citizens after a disaster the Vermont Center for Independent Living (VCIL) has been holding community hearings built around providing information about disaster preparedness after a state-wide storm in April which left about 50,000 without power. The Rutland Herald reported that the emergency preparedness meeting was held in June and was attended by local officials and emergency management personnel. To help spread awareness, VCIL also has an emergency preparedness page with resources. "Rutland Regional Medical Center was identified as a usable shelter during the April storm," the Herald reported according to Rutland Fire Chief Robert Schlachter, "but it would be great to have the city's schools set up as shelters."
