Kentucky hospital partners with tech company to create situational awareness software | 07.27.2007 | 06:23:27 | Views: 6007 | ID: July 27 '07: In Kentucky, the Jewish Hospital Medical Center South in Built County has been working with tech company FacilityOne© to develop situational awareness software to help resource and man-power management during a disaster, the Courier Journal in Louisville reported. According to the Courier-Journal, the technology's capabilities were demonstrated recently at the hospital's Louisville campus of Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare. "An incident command team of five people spent about two hours responding to scenarios that have happened. ... Throughout the drill, the software allowed (Vice President of Facilities Stephan) French to access timely information his team could use in responding to the disaster, such as preparing for victims or deciding if the hospital had to be evacuated." The disaster scenarios included a train derailment which caused a fire and subsequent chemical spill coupled with a tornado, the Courier-Journaler reported. The situational awareness software combines three different programs - maps showing offsite roadways; the hospital's heat and electrical supply and facility schematics - which work to help remotely shutdown or open parts of the hospital.
