First responders get disaster training from chemical and rail industry | 08.29.2007 | 05:06:41 | Views: 6074 | ID: August 29 '07: In a press release, chemical and railroad industry experts announced training programs for California first responders through a partnership called Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response. TRANSCAER, started in 1986, is a partnership designed to teach best practices to those responding to chemical and railroad disasters. The companies involved in the training set to be held in the Colton/San Bernardino area, Dow Chemical Company and Union Pacific Railroad, said they will "provide emergency preparedness and community awareness training focused on the safe and secure transportation of chemical materials to response organizations across the state," the press release read. After training sessions in San Bernardino, TRANSCAER representatives will "travel north through California, making scheduled stops to meet with emergency responders in Bakersfield, Fresno, Stockton, and Sacramento before completing the tour in Pittsburg." TRANSCAER is a voluntary national outreach effort that welcomes representatives from the chemical, manufacturing, transportation, distributor, and emergency response industries, as well as government, to assist with educational and training initiatives," the press release read.
