Public invited to attend session on terrorism and surgical response at International conference | 08.30.2007 | 09:07:48 | Views: 9037 | ID: August 30 '07: At the 42nd World Congress of Surgery of the International Society of Surgery ISS/SIC being held in Montreal, Quebec, the public has been invited to attend a general session focusing on terrorism attacks and the impact that it has on the response in the surgical world a press release announced. The biennial event hosts topics on all health-related issues such as military trauma, disorders, new and emerging technologies, and this year - terrorism. During the public session, topics which will be discussed will include recent natural disasters - and their magnitude of destruction; lesson-learned from mass casualty events such as the London terrorist bombings in 2005 and the war in Iraq focusing on the year 2006; planning and response methods and best practices; international relief efforts and their "lifespan"; and learning how to deal with "coping with the austere environment" or disaster volunteer work. Moderators of the event will include prominent surgeons from the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, and Canada. The session is free and begins at 4 p.m. August 30.
