In Chicago, on September 25 and 26, several major corporations in the U.S. and from abroad will gather at the Corporate Climate Response Conference to discuss the ways in which climate change will affect businesses, both through legislation and in the real world. In a press release organizers said representatives from Wal-Mart, Caterpillar, Ford, BP America, Motorola, Time Inc., Abbott, Walgreens, Anheuser Busch, Dow, McDonald's, IBM, AIG, Intel, Exelon, and Baxter Healthcare will present speeches on ways businesses can learn to prepare and adapt to changes in legislation and the environment, as well as ways to reduce consumption, increase efficiency and productivity and help to prepare for and respond to climate change. Dr. Andrew Slavin, the director of Corporate Climate Response said in the press release, "Companies often work on these projects in isolation so an event like this allows participants to benchmark their own activities and network with their peers." Rich Wells, the Vice President of Energy at Dow Chemicals said, "For us, sustainability is baout more than addressing our own [carbon] footprint. ... It's about reaching beyond our own fences to be a driving force for positive change." The conference is organized by Green Power Conferences which hosts annual gatherings on various topics ranging from renewable energy resources to carbon cap and trade systems and the emergence of the biofuels markets.
