Churches gather in California to discuss wildfire response and recovery | 11.02.2007 | 07:14:27 | Views: 7509 | ID: November 2 '07: Disaster News Network reported a gathering of local and state California officials with community church groups, relief organizations and church leaders "to bring local churches together in order to better coordinate their response efforts," during the recent devastating wildfires. According to DNN, "Disaster response groups and local churches have been assessing damages, providing assistance and looking at long-term recovery needs," of the local community. Dave Hall, the outreach ministries pastor at Emmanuel Faith Community Church which sponsored the gathering told DNN he hopes the meeting would help Churches in the San Diego area "know better who their church neighbors are and discover ways to share and receive help in serving the needs of our congregations and our communities." About 18 groups and agencies attended the meeting. Church organizations working with the community included the Mennonite Disaster Service, the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee Disaster Response Service, Convoy of Hope and City Team Ministries. Church officials said they were worried about fringe groups affected by the fires - namely Native Americans on their reservations, illegal immigrants who were trapped in the fires while trying to cross the border, and homeless populations who have no place to escape and recuperate from the wildfires.
