National Weather Service partners with local Texas community for storm preparedness | 01.04.2008 | 10:15:38 | Views: 6724 | ID: January 3 '08: The Palestine Herald-Press reported that the local National Weather Service branch in Fort Worth, Texas and the Anderson County Emergency Management Office have partnered to offer the local community a severe weather preparedness seminar. Organizers of the event said they hoped to build a more robust weather-watching and preparedness culture in the community. "The 2008 program will emphasize three fundamental concepts for severe weather events: observing, reporting, and safety," the Herald-Press reported. "The program will discuss thunderstorm information, severe weather production, and features associated with severe storms." The local gathering comes after a record-breaking year for Texas emergency response operations. Gary Woodall, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the Fort Worth NWS office told the Herald-Press that training local community members to spot, observe and report weather phenomena will help with overall response operations. "We could not do our job as well as we do without storm spotters," Woodall told the Herald-Press. "Radar is a great tool, but it only tells us part of a storm's story."
