Hearts of STIHL provide pre-positioned chainsaws in hurricane-prone areas for cleanup and recovery | 01.08.2008 | 10:52:50 | Views: 5788 | ID: January 8, '08: In a press release, the STIHL chainsaw company's USA headquarters announced the Hearts of STIHL program - a bifurcated initiative to pre-position chainsaws in hurricane-prone areas during Hurricane Katrina and to help local emergency response funding for communities by matching grant money. According to the website, "STIHL distributors; STIHL Southwest, STIHL Southeast, Blue Mountain Equipment and Bryan Equipment, worked around the clock with all personnel pitching in to load and ship product to dealers. "Territory and sales managers delivered equipment through the weekend in most of the affected areas as the hurricanes approached. STIHL Southwest personnel were especially busy servicing dealers in the Gulf Coast region until conditions were no longer safe to do so." Susan Brittain, the president of STIHL Southwest said in the press release, "Once we learned the storm was coming our way we mobilized trucks throughout the territory and drove routes where we could get hotel rooms. Our dealers were instrumental in getting us around trouble spots so we could deliver product." In addition to supplies, the company also donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross during an emergency preparedness ceremony in Virginia.
