The program's goals are two-fold: to look for ways to assist local community organizations working on disaster relief; and to help employees with recovery after a disaster. The company's disaster relief program is also working to give monetary assistance to employees - about $20,000 so far. Additionally, working with the American Red Cross, "Through the Matching Gifts Program, Associates (Carmax employees) were able to make additional donations to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, as well as to other charitable organizations offering relief," totaling about $250,000. During Hurricane Rita, Carmax said it "had pre-deployed two semi trucks to the area (near Houston) with supplies, including water, baby formula, diapers, and snack foods." The pre-positioned trucks were positioned after discussing response operations with Galveston officials who said that Houston would need the supplies more, the website read.
