Avaya's Mobile Communications System | 01.23.2008 | 12:31:23 | Views: 6109 | ID: January 23 '08: Avaya's Mobile Communications System was announced in 2006 and allows businesses and emergency management personnel the ability to establish remote communications capabilities using "self-contained communications units specifically designed for use in mobile or temporary locations." In January of 2007, Raytheon's JPS Communications said that its two-way radio communication technology ACU-2000 IP was MCS compliant - giving more range to the overall communications system. Currently, users of the MCS include the Arlington County, VA Fire Department which sought to extend their communications capability after the attacks on 9/11. Asst. Fire John White said his department wanted to "give our Incident Command Team the same communications support capabilities at the scene of an emergency as they would have in the office." Arlington County uses a "40-foot, fully-equipped office-on-wheels that leaves the bay whenever a call reaches three alarms or more, or when the team will be at a site for more than 12 hours," the Avaya website read. The mobile command unit provides "full voice and data capabilities, in a fully-configured package that can be up and running in less than an hour."
