Crime Reports partners with D.C.-area law enforcement | 01.30.2008 | 10:08:22 | Views: 5626 | ID: January 30 '08: The Washington Post reported Montgomery County, Maryland police officials who have partnered with Crimereports.com, a website run by Public Engines Inc. who are based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Crimereports.com provides an online mashup of location-based criminal reporting and in recent past has worked with the San Jose Police Department. Last year, Public Engines Inc, teamed-up with Washington D.C. police officials. The website allows law enforcement agencies to post information about criminal activities in a community. By entering the zip and address, users can see that information. However, unlike the D.C. service, Montgomery County will not initially post summaries of the crimes, but might add that service later. Public Engines Inc.'s Vice President for Marketing and Product Management Scott Newsome told the Post that the company is looking to provide the online service to more police departments in the Washington D.C. area soon. Montgomery County Police Chief J. Thomas Manger told the post Crimereports.com's service, "is stuff that people area really interested in knowing about." "Community activists and other residents frequently call the department seeking detailed crime information about their areas," the Post reported according to Manger. "The site will allow them to get current, customized information about the geographic area of interest," the Post was told by the police chief.
