Spacenet releases new emergency communications vehicle | 01.30.2008 | 12:02:46 | Views: 6241 | ID: January 30 '08: Spacenet has announced a new Emergency Communications Vehicle (ECV) "for disaster recovery and first responder organizations," the press release said. Spacenet's ECV "can typically be deployed in ten minutes or less and provides converged data, voice and video communications." The ECV vehicle is based on a HUMMER 2 and can be connected to Spacenet's Connexstar satellite service - the same technology used in the EPIC interoperable solution. "Spacenet's ECV can include a fully integrated high-performance satellite communications link; LAN (Local Area Network) communications including a digital phone, Land Mobile Radio (LMR) units, laptop PC, and video surveillance equipment; and multiple power interfaces for a generator or other standby power," the press release read. In related news about EPIC - Satnews Daily reported last summer that Spacenet and PacStar partnered to create the Emergency Preparedness Integrated Communications (EPIC) system. Satnews reported EPIC is a "mobile emergency response solution that quickly restores emergency communication in the event of hurricanes and other disasters." EPIC is "based on a modified PacStar 5500 connected to a satellite terminal," and will allow for interoperable communication the press release reported. Currently, the PacStar 5500 is being used in Afghanistan to relay communications to the Afghan National Army.
