eSolar builds power generation able to withstand natural disasters | 02.12.2008 | 13:00:52 | Views: 5840 | ID: February 12 '08: GreenTechMedia.com reported that eSolar has developed a competitive, renewable and scalable power generation technology by using solar thermal mirrors which can be portable, easy to set up and are resistant to earthquakes and other natural disasters. eSolar has received funding from Google.org through its Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal (REC) program - which is also part of a larger effort that includes predicting and preventing global pandemics. On the company's solution's webpage, eSolar said its "Power plant reliability is safeguarded by both the replication of the critical compounds within each module, and the repetition of modules within a power plant. ... For both large and small installations, this redundancy provides a high level of energy security under a wide variety of operating conditions." The modules are set into deliveries of 25 MW but have the capability to deliver up to 500 MW. They can be set up to provide quick, powerful bursts of energy, or they can provide longer-term continuously. Regarding severe conditions, eSolar's "fields are also designed to withstand extreme conditions after installation, including hail, lightning, and earthquakes." The low profile of the panels, the company said, also helps in high wind environments, reducing damage to a minimum.
