Galveston has been known for its hurricane response partnerships to aid with evacuation, special needs care and recovery operations. The Red Cross twitter feed is buzzing with constant updates and audio newsfeeds while recent partnerships between DHS and the social networking site Myspace are providing information applications to inform residents of updates. Also, a Hurricane Ike resources site has been propped up sponsored by Publix and One Storm. The Weather Channel has created a Hurricane Ike webpage which tracks the storm's progress. Mandatory evacuations were called by Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas Thursday while in Houston residents evacuated according to zip code. Currently, the Houston Chronicle is live tracking the storm with aninteractive live feed with a live chat being hosted by Chronicle Science Blogger Eric Berger.
