February 19 '08: In a press release the Harris Corporation announced a new land mobile radio that provides interoperable communications capability for federal agencies needing to talk to first responders on a secure link. The new multiband radios can provide "multi-agency communications across multiple frequency bands," including VHF and UHF.
"The new radio is compliant with APCO Project 25, the technical standard for digital public safety radio communications developed by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials," the press release read. "The new Harris Land Mobile Radio is software-defined, [making it] adaptable to evolving technical standards and changing mission requirements."

On the company's website, a downloadable PDF said the new RF-1033M radio includes "continuous frequency coverage from 30 to 512 MHz and adjustable transmit power up to 5 watts across all bands. The radio optionally includes an internal GPS receiver to display local position and to provide automatic position reporting."
