Homeland Security training center | 01.23.2006 | 08:35:04 | Views: 5467 | ID: January 23 '06: A homeland security training center being funded by a private company has bought land in Ohio from the military and local city councils and will begin to offer training courses, the Ledger-Enquirer in Columbus reported Monday. National Security Associates will establish the National Security Centre of Advanced Tactical Training and Research on the 693-acre piece of land. The Centre will focus on training police and government forces in "technical surveillance during tactical operations; basic and advanced SWAT and sniper; command and control; vehicle assault; high-rise building assault techniques; structural explosive breaching," and other methods used by security forces, the Ledger-Examiner reported. Muscogee County Sheriff Ralph Johnson said he is anticipating the new Centre because is "going to be really good for us." "We're now interested in group training. It can be several states away to get this kind of training. That means per diem costs. Being this close, I think it will save a lot of money," Johnson said. Because the Centre's focus will be on training in emergency situations, fire and rescue officials in Columbus are also looking forward to the creation of the program. Deputy Chief Robert Futrell from Columbus Fire and Rescue said his department was "particularly looking at rescue training. We hope they can provide the specialized training we could use." Of those who train with National Security Associates, government agencies range from all branches of the US military to the FBI, CIA, as well as the Departments of Justice, Treasury, Postal Service, Energy among others. The costs of a training session for one person averages $800 and the site in Columbus will serve as the Southeast regional training location for the company.
