New Internet resource on homeland security and emergency preparedness for schools | 02.07.2007 | 08:18:47 | Views: 5676 | ID: February 7 '07: A new Internet emergency preparedness and response information clearinghouse has been developed for school administrators and educators with a focus on school safety, eSchool News reported. The New School Actions for Emergencies Center (SAFE) is a joint project of the eSchool News publication and the International Society for Technology in Education. Organizers of the project say their goal is to create a place on the Internet where school administrators and teachers can learn about local and state evacuation plans during a disaster, best practices for pandemic, terrorist or other emergency response and other studies, reports and articles relating to schools and emergencies. Gregg Downey the president and publisher of eSchool News said, "Now, besides just reporting on a disaster affecting education, we'll also be able to provide the field with many of the resources educators search for as they prepare for emergencies, learn to react as effectively as possible in the time of need, and then recover in the aftermath." The SAFE Center's list of available information includes: research documents and guidelines on preparing and "coping" with a disaster; libraries of corporate security and preparedness providers; and local and state disaster plans "that educators can use as models when developing their own plans." Organizers of the project say as the site develops, more features will be added to help userability.
