FBI to host anti-terror exercises in Boston area for regional agencies and localities | 03.12.2007 | 05:04:45 | Views: 5562 | ID: March 12 '07: FBI Special Agent Warren T. Bamford told the Boston Globe that if a terror cell were to plan an attack on U.S. soil, local and state police would be on the front line of response. "If we're going to stop a terrorist attack, the person it's going to be stopped by is a police officer of citizen." Bamford said the FBI will be hosting anti-terror exercises for Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Maine so that communities can have "more information-sharing" and increase awareness. Bamford said that his plan was "to invite a police officer, analyst, or representative from every police department in the four-state region covered by the FBI's Boston office to attend one-or-two-day workshops in which presentations would be made by counterterrorism specialists," the Globe reported. Currently, officials told the Globe, there are no operating known terrorist cells in the Boston area but Bamford said the country can never be too prepared. Other projects being developed by the Boston-area FBI include counterintelligence, cyber crimes investigations, and identity theft cases.
