In the announcement, Gov. Rendell said that recent flooding last June and severe winter weather in December causing tornadoes underscored the necessity for PA communites to be prepared and to be ready to respond similar disasters. "Designating a 'Weather Emergency Preparedness Week' should serve as an added reminder to everyone from our state agencies to businesses and residents that we must be ready to handle these conditions." During the week, state emergency management agency officials will engage local schools, nursing homes, hospitals and day care centers to help those organizations develop effective emergency response and preparedness programs. Additionally, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service "will issue exercise-based weather reports of developing conditions." More information about the week's programs can be found at www.pema.state.pa.us.
