IBM develops business disaster response and preparedness plan | 03.13.2007 | 05:57:13 | Views: 4993 | ID: March 13 '07: IBM has developed a business disaster response and preparedness plan, the company's website reported. The Business Continuity Self-Assessment Tool was developed to tackle three main areas of disaster mitigation: business, data, and event driven threats. The tool was developed to help business owners take stock of their company's overall disaster preparedness and the subsequent ability of the company to be able to rebuild once the disaster strikes. "The truth is," the IBM site read, "there's more to business resiliency than just disaster recovery. ... Even companies that believe they have an adequate disaster recovery plan in place often sustain crippling damage because they have not incorporated both proactive and reactive strategies for all three major threat areas." The three areas: business, data and event driven threats all have defined metrics for which businesses can prepare, according to IBM. For business-driven threats, company owners can manage "addressing government and industry regulations locally and across the globe," while asking the questions, "How prepared [are you] to mitigate risks to non-compliance? ... [Is] your business ... prepared for success? Can your infrastructure handle spikes in demand?" Data and event driven threats involve identity theft, situations which can arise during a pandemic when employees will not, or cannot come to work, and how the business will handle those situations. The site provides the Business Continuity Self-Assessment tool to begin the preparedness and response process and includes additional information.
