Alert system installed for KY residents under dam | 04.27.2007 | 07:17:26 | Views: 5896 | ID: April 27 '07: Kentucky Department of Homeland Security officials have partnered with Wolf Creek Dam construction engineers in the southern part of the state to install a warning system to alert the 17,500 residents in the four counties under the dam in case of an accidental water release from Lake Cumberland due to construction, ComputerWorld reported. The emergency alert is a reverse-911 calling system designed by InterAct MissionMode. which sends a pre-recorded message "to the home phone of every resident in a specific area within minutes," the interact press release read. The system is being tested currently while KY homeland security officials have asked residents in the area to register their emails, cell phone numbers and house lines with the call center's database so they can receive any emergency information. ComputerWorld reported that the software to maintain the system costs about $50,000 a year to operate. Current operations include creating a robust phone system to handle a flood of traffic during an emergency as well.
