South Carolina partnering with company for telemedicine technology upgrades in hospitals | 05.03.2007 | 05:53:11 | Views: 12749 | ID: May 3 '07: South Carolina Department of Health officials, along with Catawba Indian Nation tribal officials and Logical Images have partnered to introduce new telemedicine technology which will help 65 rural state hospitals as well as urban area medical centers, share visual information through a system called VisualDx, designed for remote information sharing and diagnosis, a press release announced. According to Dr. Martin Lutz, the Medical Director of Emergency Services at the Greenville Hospital System, said the state's implementation of the VisualDx system is "equipping its hospitals to manage public health emergencies such as a bioterrorism event of pandemic outbreak." Sue Boeker, Infection Control Nurse said in the press release that the system worked by disseminating "information about potential threats and puts notices directly into the hands of practitioners, enabling us to implement effective infection prevention and control measures." Officials also said the new system would help a medical emergency response in the event of a pandemic, when resources would by locationaly stretched thin.
