Michigan State and Ford partner for preparedness and response | 05.21.2007 | 07:44:19 | Views: 6203 | ID: May 21 '07: On Tuesday, May 22 the Ford Motor Company and Michigan State University will participate in a disaster preparedness and response competition to test the car company's ability to address emergency situations, an MSU press release announced. The partnership is part of a larger service provided by MSU for private and public sector first responders. According to Scott Tobey, professor at MSU's School of Criminal Justice, the school "provides more than 700 days of training for first responders in the public and private sector. ... The hands-on training is designed to provide responders with the knowledge and skills required for fight fires, handle chemical spills, respond to medical emergencies and initiate rescue services." The Ford/MSU competition will include emergency response teams from the Ford Motor Co.'s North American plant who will compete in six unrehearsed events. The competition also will include technical rescue skill, medical and hazmat response evaluations, and firefighting hose application and a team building firehose game, the MSU site read.
