Georgia Minor League Baseball team partners with DHS and Scouts for preparedness night | 07.06.2007 | 06:05:08 | Views: 5351 | ID: July 6 '07: SavannahNow.com reported that the Minor League Baseball team the Savannah Sand Gnats are partnering with the Department of Homeland Security and the Boy Scouts of America for the fourth annual "Ready Night" to teach emergency preparedness in the community. The Sand Gnats are among 54 other teams in the country who are participating with DHS to spread information about emergency preparedness and to educate the public about how they can prepare their businesses, schools, families and communities. A 2006 press release from the Boy Scouts explained that during the "Ready Nights", "Boy Scouts, Citizen Corps volunteers and other community members will distribute emergency preparedness brochures to fans." Mike Moore, the president and CEO of Minor League Baseball said in the press release, "Like baseball, preparing for emergencies takes planning and practice. ... Our organization is proud to be part of the Homeland Security and Boy Scout efforts to educate Americans on how to prepare families in case of an emergency through the Ready Campaign."
