New York colleges partner to offer response education | 08.14.2007 | 06:37:42 | Views: 5436 | ID: August 14 '07: The Mid Hudson News reported that a group of four New York State colleges, Ulster, Rockland, Orange and Sullivan Community College have partnered to form the Hudson Valley Domestic Preparedness Community College Consortium which will allow for collaborative learning for people looking to receive an education in emergency planning, fire protection technology, emergency management and medical services among other disciplines. In a news report on the SUNY Orange website, Marianne Collins, the director or institutional advancement at SUNY Ulster said, "Our community colleges are particularly well-suited to help us meet a need in our region that is reaching the critical point." "As education and technology become more specialized, and as disaster prevention and preparedness needs expand, we believe this will put Hudson Valley students on the cutting edge of a growing and critically important field." The consortium was helped through a $4 million state fund. The teaching curricula will include interactive video conferencing on all four campuses. "In addition, full use will be made of online instruction to supplement and expand the range of classroom offerings," the news report read.
