About 13 booths will display demonstrations and information on how to protect and prepare families. Senior Vice President for Philanthropy at the McCormick Tribune Foundation Don Cooke told the Suburban News, "The hope is we'll never need this information, but it takes three days before government can get somewhere and get organized. ... It is essential for individuals to have knowledge and a plan so they know what to do before help can get there." Also, the Humane Society will participate in the event to help raise awareness about pet safety and preparedness and Pet Supplies Plus will donate supplies so that people can build their own pet disaster response kit. The event was scheduled to coincide with a Revolutionary War re-enactment which organizers said draws about 7,000 people.
