New York City OEM establishes business listing resource for emergencies | 01.02.2008 | 09:38:22 | Views: 6684 | ID: January 2 '08 The New York City's Office of Emergency Management has begun an online community business resource tool to help during a response to a disaster. The Private Asset and Logistics Management System (PALMS) is a private sector registry resource designed to enhance the Citywide Asset and Logistics Management System (CALMS). On the website, the OEM said PALMS was designed to "maximize public-private partnerships in future emergencies and enhance the (CALMS). Through PALMS, businesses list goods and services they may have available for use by the City in an emergency. The City's most-needed assets during emergencies include personnel, equipment and supplies, and facilities. If the need arises, City response agencies will call on PALMS participants to supply assets listed in the registry." In order to use the database, companies and organizations should call the city and discuss their resources. Once the call is made, the organization or company should have access to the database. Most-needed assets include warehouses and phone banks, office trailers, refrigerated trucks and personnel with special skill sets such as foreign-language capabilities.
