AT&T's Network Disaster Recovery | 01.14.2008 | 05:27:49 | Views: 6312 | ID: January 14 '08: Networks like Verizon have been working to prepare their networks in the event of a large-scale disaster like a hurricane. Similarly, AT&T's Network Disaster Recovery (NDR) has been developed to recover voice and data services quickly in the affected area of a disaster. The company uses a combination of satellite links and emergency communications vehicles to rebuild and provide communications. The NDR was set up and used right after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 as well as during other emergencies like Hurricane Katrina. During 2005 after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, AT&T deployed 4 ECVs and a "fly-away satellite" unit to locations along the coast. Many of the services provided by the satellite communications and the ECVs helped response, recovery and humanitarian efforts. A list of all recent deployments of the NDR has been listed on the company's page.
