On their website, the organization said it also "serves as a resource network of companies, including banking, financial services, and insurance as well as government social service and emergency relief organizations that mobilize to respond to disasters." The organization was founded in 1992 in Los Angeles after the city-wide riots following the Rodney King verdict. "Through a series of public/private partnerships and strategic alliances, (Operation Hope Inc.,) OHI has developed and implemented programs focused on connecting the minority community with mainstream, private sector resources, and empowering under-served communities." Coalition Hope America is a program working under the larger OHI aegis. On the Hope Coalition America page, the organization said it wants to work toward protecting individual and families' home-ownership assets by providing an Emergency Financial First Aid Kit and a Personal Preparedness Guide. In a related press release the organization said that technology giant Microsoft will help close the technology gap a bit more with about $1 million in broadband investment for the nation's inner cities and neighborhoods.
