Community-based flu wiki sites join to form family pandemic preparedness site | 02.13.2008 | 16:39:50 | Views: 12464 | ID: February 13 '08: Several community-based avian flu pandemic preparedness sites have partnered to form a new family-targeted avian pandemic preparedness website called GetPandemicReady.org. The GetPandemicReady site was begun by the Get Pandemic Ready Team (GPR Team) and the website is hosted byNez Perce County in Idaho. The website recommends families prepare at least three months' worth of supplies - food, water, medications and basic supplies citing several reasons originally outlined by the Department of Health and Human Services Pandemic Flu Leadership Blog which convened the top pandemic leadership around the country earlier in the spring of 2007. Those recommendations outlined include taking into consideration family members who are sick for more than 2 weeks; having a pandemic wave which would last for about 3 weeks; that critical infrastructure would be at risk during the pandemic; three months of supplies "makes sense" for communities and families; households could be sick for more than 3 weeks; and leading experts recommend three weeks of supplies. The sites which have partnered include the Students Prep America site targeting students; Prepared Citizens LLC; the Flu Wiki; and the Avian Flu Diary.
