The SRM will enable organizations "to deliver centralized management of recovery plans, automate the recovery process and enable dramatically improved testing of recovery plans." The technology rests on the SRM's ability to automate many of the recovery processes which are time-consuming, the company's product page said. "It provides built-in capabilities for executing realistic, non-disruptive tests without the cost and complexity of traditional disaster recovery testing." In a press release VMWare said the SRM "uses hardware - and operating system-independet mobile virtual machines to deliver," the solution. ContinuityCentral reported the capability "leverage virtual machines to automate the steps of the IT service delivery and business continuity process, eliminating repetitive, rote tasks and minimizing the margin for error." The SRM is expected to be released later this year. The announcement of the new software was in conjunction with three other virtualization products the company released.
