DHS called the Voluntary Private Sector Preparedness Accreditation and Certification Program (PS-Prep) a "major milestone" in working with the private sector to achieve one of the goals outlined by the 9/11 Commission. DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said "These new standards will provide our private sector partners with the tools they need to enhance the readiness and resiliency of our nation." The standards were developed by the British Standards Institution and ASIS International. ASIS President Joseph R. Granger said, "In light of the recent events in the Gulf, the importance of resilience cannot be understated." Mandated in 2007, the Adfero Group's Security Debrief Blog (**NB** original link here) PS-Prep "will enable businesses to be prepared to respond to and recover from a disaster and resume normal business operations effectively and efficiently." On its bioterrorism blog, the University of Minnesota Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy said the new standards would help "to improve supply chain resilience." The goal of PS-Prep would be to offer "a streamlined process that avoids the expense of individual audits. Suppliers [would] be able to receive a single certification that they can provide to many customers."
