The partnership between the local government response services, the Red Cross and WestTel will continue through the rest of the 2007 hurricane season. Cayman Net News reported, "The service greatly assisted in Red Cross preparations and made it possible for the local group to keep contact with overseas command centers and other public agencies from one of their hurricane shelters while the Cayman Islands awaited Hurricane Dean's arrival." WestTel officials told Cayman Net News their Internet service can be provided using a mobile modem "is extremely quick and simple to deploy," according to Calvin Morton, vice president of sales. Red Cross disaster manager for the Caymans, Hemant Balgobin told Net News access to the Internet "was available to us throughout the recent storm, providing us with a vital link to the outside world." "The service has already become an important part of our disaster readiness toolkit and we certainly look forward to developing our relationship with WestTel as we continue to improve our ability to respond to emergency situations," Balgobin said.
