AMBER Alert programs highlight federal and tribal partnership | 09.17.2007 | 05:06:33 | Views: 5982 | ID: September 17 '07: Ten Native Nations will cooperate with the Department of Justice in a pilot program to help expand the AMBER Alert program, a press release read. Federal organizers said they hoped the ten initiatives would help strengthen information sharing among law enforcement agencies between the community, tribal, state and federal authorities. Regina B. Schofield, the National AMBER Alert Coordinator and Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs said in the press release, "The ten pilot sites will serve as models for other Tribal communities working to develop AMBER Alert plans so that children in Indian county can benefit from the AMBER Alert network." The ten Native Nations participating: Acoma; Hopi; Laguna and Zuni Pueblo communities; the Choctaw Nation; the Crow Nation; the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians; the Gila River Indian Community; the Navajo Nation; the Northern Arapaho Tribe; the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community; the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska; and the Yakama Nation, will work to ameliorate wireless and land-based information sharing broadcasting techniques to link law enforcement and community officials together to make the emergency alert-based system more effective.
