InfraGard partners private sector with FBI for infrastructure protection | 02.11.2008 | 07:35:48 | Views: 6343 | ID: February 11 '08: The InfraGard public/private partnership was developed by the FBI and it pairs private sector infrastructure stakeholders with federal officials to share information and protect the nation's resources. InfraGard "is an association of businesses, academic institutions, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other participants dedicated to sharing information and intelligence to prvent hostile acts against the United States," the website said. The association began in 1996 at a Cleveland FBI field office and has since expanded to the rest of the country. "Each InfraGard Chapter has an FBI Special Agent Coordinator assigned to it, and the FBI Coordinator works closely with Supervisory Special Agent Program Managers in the Cyber Division at the FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.," the website continued. Information is shared through a secure web portal to facilitate its goals of increasing the level of information being shared among public and private officials; increasing the interaction of information sharing regarding threats; providing alerts and value-added threat advisories; helping to facilitate relationships between the Department of Homeland Security and local, state and federal agencies; and to provide a forum for education on counterterrorism.
