Incubator network to nurture homeland security
Baltimore Business Journal - November 8, 2005
Seven business incubators focusing on homeland security, including the Chesapeake Innovation Center in Annapolis, have formed a group to better link technology entrepreneurs and customers with security challenges.
The Technology Acceleration for National Security Network represents 106 resident companies and is expected to include incubators in 10 states next year, organizers said.
Incubators in the network are home to startups developing everything from network vulnerability tools to informatics technology to a potential anthrax vaccine.
Organizers say the network will enable government agencies and major corporations to identify and nurture key security technologies, similar to the close working relationship the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC) has with the National Security Agency and Northrop Grumman.
Market intelligence, networking, teaming on contracts and other proprietary services will be available for network members.
"We believe entrepreneurship is a key national asset for enhancing the security of our nation," said CIC CEO John Elstner in a statement.
Along with the CIC, the other founding members of the network are based in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Texas and New York.
