August 10 '07: Government Technology reported that the City of Tallahassee has been recognized by the Public Technology Institute for its Public Safety Project, a city-wide interoperable communications network.
GovTech reported, "The project involved replacing the police and fire computer aided dispatch system (CAD) and records management system, and integrating both new applications with enhanced 9-1-1, automatic vehicle location technologies (AVL), advanced technical mapping, query tools, imaging technologies, electronic field reporting, crime and fire analysis tools, and the City's 800 MHz data system."

PTI said that the upgrade and integration process was aided by a project team formed to include members of the business and technology community as well as responder officials and local government employees and officials. The overall project was begun in 2001. "Implementation occurred in a phased approach and included remodeling the computer operations room and training room and in the installation of approximately 15 new servers to accommodate the new software."
