Anheuser-Busch pre-stages water in hurricane-prone areas

January 16 '08: Earlier in 2007, with the hurricane season just about to start, Anheuser-Busch announced it was pre-staging canned water around the Gulf and Southeastern Atlantic coasts. 12,850 cases of canned water were delivered to relief organizations and local emergency response agencies. An additional fact sheet from the National Conference of State Legislatures showed that the company also gave support to law enforcement and relief agencies as well as financial support and transportation/trucking capabilities during Hurricane Katrina.
Through a partnership with the American Red Cross, Anheuser-Busch provides the drinking water in cans looking similar to its beer - and is delivered by the Red Cross. "The white cans of drinking water have become a staple at American Red Cross relief centers across the Southeast," the company's press release read.

Peter Kramer, the vice president of operations for Anheuser-Busch said the company "is in a unique position to provide water to those in need. Few corporations have the infrastructure to package beverages and distribute them quickly to our local wholesalers. ... When a natural disaster strikes, very simply put, we have a responsibility to package and provide water to our neighbors, and we're proud to do so."

Since the beginning of its drinking water program, the company has donated more than 59.3 million cans of drinking water. The canned water has been distributed from Arizona to Florida and throughout the Southeast.
