Locals in Montana train for community response | 10.16.2006 | 07:29:18 | Views: 4303 | ID: October 16 '06: Local officials in the Helena, Montana area are planning a community emergency response training seminar, the Independent Record reported recently. The training will be held October 19th through the 21st and will cover disaster preparedness, fire and hazardous material safety, emergency medical operations, light search and rescue, organization, disaster psychology, terrorism and earthquake preparedness. Lewis and Clark County Citizens Corps Council Coordinator Karen Semple was quoted in a press release saying that community responder training was essential because those first on the scene of a disaster are bystanders or the actual victims. The IR reported that the community emergency response training (CERT) program would include a coordinated local responder effort "to equip participants with hands-on immediate response and decision making skills for use in any disaster or emergency. The training teaches participants to keep themselves safe and do the most good for the most number of people in an emergency."
