Transit security: using controled access points to help increase security | 10.19.2006 | 08:12:04 | Views: 5474 | ID: Security on mass transit is hard to accomplish and consolidate because of the loose nature of metro rails, buses and trains. Airports are tighter because they have controlled movements of people that are not always translatable or possible for commuters or train passengers. To increase train security with relatively little in extra costs, stations should be given a single access point before the train gates. At each of these entrances, security officials could install biohazard sensors which would be connected to a network allowing security officials to monitor multiple areas at one time. By having a single access point, passengers would be required to walk through an area that could be controlled in the beginning, allowing for free travel once inside the commuter network.
